Autumn 2024
Autumn Term
In English, one of our topics was Instructions. We started the topic by being given a set of instructions that we had to follow to make a jam sandwich. Some peoples instructions were in the correct order, where as some of them were not. We had a great time making the jam sandwiches and talking about what was wrong with the instructions. Later in the topic we wrote our own instructions making sure they were all written in the correct order.
In Maths, we started off by looking at place value, we were making and representing numbers to 10,000 using the resources. We then continued to use the resources to help us see what happens when we are adding and subtracting before using the column method. We also used the resources to answer a range of different problem-solving questions.
In Science, our first topic was Animals and their Habitats. We started looking at using classification keys to sort and organise different animals, we found this a little tricky at first but worked together to successfully complete the activity. In the second half term our topic was Changing States, we thought about the molecules and different objects that were Solid, Liquid or Gas. We also had a great time experimenting with chocolate, investigating how it changes from a Solid to a Liquid and from a Liquid to a Solid.
In Geography, our topic was Rainforests. We used atlas’ to find and locate countries from around the world with a rainforest in before moving on to think about the layers of the Rainforest, animals that live there and the climate. We researched the weather in different Rainforests before creating our own weather forecasts which we presented to the rest of the class.
In Art, we linked our topic to our Geography topic. We used the Rainforest as inspiration to create a textile pattern. We used a form of Batik to outline our design on fabric before painting it. We also thought a lot about how this could be made into a repeating pattern.
