Spring Term
One of our topics this half term has been People Who Help Us. We looked at the different vehicles that these people drive, such as ambulances, fire engines, police cars and post vans. We designed our own vehicles and then made them using Junk modelling materials. We thought about the features that our vehicles would need, which materials we would need and which would be the best way to join our materials. We were very proud of our finished vehicles!
This term we have also been thinking about how we can have a positive Growth Mindset. We thought about all of the things that we are able to do now and the things that can’t do YET! The story of Giraffe’s Can’t Dance helped us to remember that just like Gerald we will keep trying until we achieve our goals!
We have just celebrated Maths Week in school. It was great to have some of our parents come into class and join us for a maths session.
We enjoyed showing them some of the maths games and activities that we use to help us with our learning.
We also enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this month. As part of our Expressive Arts and Design work we made Chinese Blossom Tree Pictures. We painted the backgrounds and explored how adding white made the colour lighter. We drew patterns to decorate the Ming Vase and then we added the branches and blossom.
We also made Dragon puppets using paper and straws, and we enjoyed dancing along to some traditional music.
In RE our topic has been Gathering. We have been learning about how the Parish Family gather together at Mass. We turned our classroom into a church and role played what happens during the Mass, with children taking on the roles of the Priest and the Altar Servers.
Our outdoor role play has been a Builders Yard. We have enjoyed making structures using a wide range of materials.
In PE this half term, we have been doing gymnastics. We have been confidently using the large apparatus, creating sequences that include jumps, balances and different ways of travelling.
We took advantage of the recent icy weather, trapping the animals in a frozen tray. The children enjoyed rescuing the animals, talking about the changes as the ice melted.
