Spring 2
In Reception this half term we have been learning about animals and how living things grow. We have learnt about a different group of animals each week, including farm animals, birds and pets.
As part of our work on animals we have learnt about the life cycles of animals, different habitats and how to care for animals. We turned our outdoor role play area into a Vets and enjoyed making all of the poorly animals better.
We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. We focused on the story of ‘Journey’ and completing lots of fun reading activities.
We had an exciting week focused on Science, where we experimented with materials and explored how plants grow. We learnt about the different parts of a plant and what they need to grow. We planted our own pea seeds and have been looking after them, ready to plant outside when they are a little bigger.
We shared the story of the Little Red Hen and learned how to make bread. We then worked together to make our own bread rolls which we ate at snack time.
This half term we have also introduced the children to 3D shapes and have learned their names and some of their properties. We have been matching rhyming words and have continued with our work on number bonds, recalling amounts needed to make 10.
We shared the Easter story and visited the church to reflect on Jesus’ journey from Good Friday to Easter Sunday.
