Spring Term
One of our topics this half term has been People Who Help Us. We looked at the different vehicles that these people drive such as ambulances, fire engines, police cars and post vans. We designed our own vehicles and then made them using junk modelling materials. We thought about the features that our vehicles would need, which materials we would need and which would be the best way to join the materials. We were very proud of our finished vehicles!
This term we have also been thinking about how we can have a positive Growth Mindset. We thought about all of the things that we are able to do now and the things that we can’t do YET! The story of Giraffe's Can’t Dance helped us to remember that just like Gerald we will keep trying until we achieve our goals!
We have just celebrated Maths Week in school. It was great to have some of our parents come into class and join us for a maths session.
We enjoyed showing them some of the maths games and activities that we use to help us with our learning.
We also enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this month and as part of our Expressive Arts and Design work we made Chinese Blossom Tree Pictures. We used water colour paints to paint the background, drew patterns to decorate the ming vase and then added the branches and blossom.
We have recently revamped our Gospel Values display and have given it a more prominent place in class so that the children can engage with it more. Each week the Gospel Value for the week is placed on to the trunk of the tree. We discuss what this value means and how we can try and live out this gospel through our actions in class. The child that has demonstrated this the most is rewarded with the Gospel certificate on Friday in church.
Our RE topic this half term has been Gathering. We spoke about how the parish family gather together to celebrate Mass. We turned Ladybirds Class into a church and role played what happens during a Mass. We sang hymns, listened to a passage from the Bible, received a blessing, offered each other the sign of peace and practised saying the different responses that we use at Mass.
