Pen Portrait of Governors
Mrs Clare Selwood. Chair of Governors
My name is Claire Selwood and I have been a Foundation Governor of Holy Cross Primary School since my youngest daughter left. While my 3 children were attending Holy Cross, I was heavily involved with the PTA. I am also an active member of Holy Cross Parish. I feel lucky to be involved in such a great school/church family. All my children have now gone on to university or further education which has enabled them to follow their dreams. The foundations for this were set at Holy Cross and that is one of the reasons I become a governor, so all children can have a chance of a good start in education. In my spare time when not working at pre-school, I help with the communion program, support the school and events as much as I can. I love governor’s day when we spend the whole day in the school with the children and any other time I have, I spend with my family enjoying the outdoors.
Mrs Ann Tierney, Authority Governor
My name is Ann Tierney, and I am serving at present as your Governor, appointed by your Local Authority as Community Governor. I am retired from working with under 5’s since 1974 until 2013, establishing my own Early Years Provision in Holy Cross from 1992 – 2013. I have also served on the Essex PLA Executive Committee as Harlow’s Early Years representative. I am married with one son, and know that education, if delivered correctly, brings not just knowledge, but life skills and a firm foundation for life ahead; of which Holy Cross brings this in abundance along with its firm foundation of faith, family, community & belonging. I am continually enthused and engaged in life at Holy Cross, where we continue to grow in our full rounded education in an atmosphere that allows our children to reach their full potential. I have worked with our staff & Governing Body to ensure children feel safe, have every opportunity to learn, and build strong & lasting relationships with our Buddy classes. We are proud to have achieved a Governor Kitemark of Excellence and use this to Self-Assess, which keeps us on track to achieve the excellence our school provides.
